Supporting Parents in Nurturing Healthy Development
Combining clinical expertise with accessible resources
What Parent Consultation Is
Parent consultation provides a clear, developmentally informed understanding of a child’s emotional and behavioral concerns. The goal is to establish a working formulation, identify contributing factors, and outline next steps that are realistic and effective at home, school, and in treatment.
-
Persistent anxiety, mood concerns, irritability, or withdrawal
School avoidance, attentional difficulties, or learning concerns
Social struggles, peer conflict, or online/media strain
Family conflict, limit-setting challenges, or transition stress (moves, loss, divorce)
Questions about evaluation (ADHD, autism, mood, trauma) or treatment planning
-
Focused history-taking and clarification of current concerns
A concise formulation linking patterns, developmental history, and context
Practical recommendations (home routines, communication, limits, sleep, screen use)
Coordination with schools and other providers when useful
Guidance on whether ongoing therapy, evaluation, or referrals are indicated
-
A grounded plan you can act on immediately—based on clinical reasoning, not trends.
-
Format: 50–60 minute meetings (parent-only; child involvement if clinically indicated)
Availability: Virtual in CA, OR, WA, ID; in-person available in San Diego, CA
Cadence: Single consults, short consultation series, or ongoing parent work as needed
Collaboration: With pediatricians, schools, and allied professionals when appropriate
Consultation vs. Ongoing Treatment—How to Decide
Choose consultation when you need a clear plan, second opinion, school guidance, or clarifying next steps.
Choose therapy (child, parent, or family) when difficulties are persistent and change requires sustained work over time.
