Child & Adolescent Therapy in San Diego

Thoughtful, developmentally informed work with children, adolescents, and families in San Diego

When a Child or
Adolescent Is Struggling

Children and adolescents often show emotional distress through changes in mood, behavior, relationships, or daily functioning. Parents may notice increased anxiety, sadness, irritability, withdrawal, school difficulties, or challenges with emotional regulation. While some struggles are part of typical development, others signal that a child or teen may need additional support to make sense of what they are experiencing and to regain a sense of balance.

How I Work with Children and Adolescents

My work with children and teens in San Diego is developmentally informed and depth-oriented. With younger children, sessions often include play and creative expression, which can help feelings and thoughts take shape in ways that don’t rely only on words. I also offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for children and teens, including treatment that meets multiple times per week when a more intensive frame is clinically indicated. Across ages, the work provides a steady, protected space to understand emotional life, relationships, and patterns that may be difficult to express directly.

Supporting the Child
Within Their Family

Depending on a child’s developmental needs, parent involvement is often an important part of the work. Parent consultation helps clarify what a child’s struggles may be communicating and supports caregivers in responding with greater steadiness and understanding. The goal is not simply symptom reduction, but supporting emotional growth, resilience, and healthier relationships over time.
