Child & Adolescent Treatment

Thoughtful, developmentally informed work with children and adolescents

Children and adolescents encounter challenges as they grow, some of which are part of typical development and others that reflect more persistent emotional or relational struggles. Difficulties with mood, behavior, relationships, school, or self-regulation can sometimes resolve with time, but when concerns feel ongoing or intensifying, they often signal experiences that are not yet being worked through or understood.

Treatment offers a space to attend to what may be happening beneath the surface, rather than focusing only on outward behavior. The work is developmentally informed and designed to support children and adolescents in expressing and making sense of their emotional experiences in ways that feel safe and manageable.

In therapy, young people are offered a consistent, protected setting where they can explore feelings, wishes, and concerns that may be difficult to articulate. My approach integrates verbal and nonverbal forms of expression, allowing children to communicate through play, language, and relationship. Over time, this work can support emotional integration, strengthen communication, and foster more adaptive ways of managing internal and external challenges.

Parents are an important part of the process. Depending on a child’s developmental needs, parent involvement may include regular consultation or periodic meetings focused on understanding a child’s emotional world and supporting thoughtful responses at home. The goal is not simply symptom reduction, but supporting emotional growth, resilience, and healthier relationships over time.

I offer child and adolescent treatment via telehealth, as well as in-person services in San Diego.
